Program Overview

The Bachelor of Arts in Psychology is an ideal degree for pursuing a variety of career paths and graduate school opportunities. Through the disciplines of psychology taught in a culturally sensitive environment, the student will gain a deep understanding of individuals and society. They will gain proficiency in employing different research methods and applying evidence. Furthermore, students will learn psychological principles and theories and how to apply them. They will also adopt professional standards in information literacy skills, communication skills, the conventions established by the American Psychological Association (APA) for documenting sources, and APA ethical guidelines.

While it can be used as a stand-alone degree, this 120-credit Bachelor’s degree can also be used to gain entry into our prestigious array of graduate programs including the M.S. in Education & Special Education (Mt. St. Vincent), MSW in Social Work (Wurzweiler), and M.P.S. in Applied Behavior Analysis – ABA (Manhattanville College). Additionally, it can also be used to apply to a wide variety of other graduate programs such as Psychology, Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, School Psychology, Mental Health Counseling, School Leadership, Law, Marriage & Family Counseling, Nutrition, Accounting, MBA, Nursing, and more.

This degree is widely accepted by colleges across the country. Graduates of our B.A. in Psychology have moved on to graduate degree programs in prestigious universities including NYU, Rutgers, Columbia, Cornell, YU, Adelphi, Touro, Brooklyn College, FDU, LIU, Fordham, Carnegie Mellon, and others.

The full cost of the degree is $19,500. This covers the cost of college courses ($18,000) and required exams (approximately $1,500). Students who are eligible for financial aid (FAFSA) may receive scholarships to cover the full cost of the college courses. Your exact tuition amount will depend on your transfer credits and financial aid eligibility.

2. St. Peter’s University (SPU) is a highly ranked university in NJ, featuring an outstanding Psychology department under the leadership of Maryellen Hamilton, Professor and Chair of Psychology. Will this degree be accepted by other universities?

Both institutions are regionally accredited, which means that their degrees are accepted by graduate programs nationwide. Students have used the bachelor’s degree earned at UMSV and SPU for admittance into master’s programs in a wide variety of colleges. How long will it take to earn my degree?

This degree can be completed in as few as three semesters (11 months).

What if I still did not decide on a graduate field or program?

The extreme versatility and accelerated nature of this degree make it an ideal choice for a student who has yet to decide on a master’s program. Many students only choose a career path upon concluding this highly respected, yet affordable undergraduate program that is accepted by premier colleges across the USA.

Can I maintain employment at the undergraduate level while earning this degree?

Although the program is rigorous, the schedule is tailored to allow for students to obtain employment during the course of their undergraduate studies.

What are the admission requirements?

• High School Transcript (minimum 3.0 GPA)

• A 3-credit Psychology prerequisite is required for acceptance into the program, which must be completed prior to the start of the semester. Your coordinator will notify you about how to earn these credits at your interview (if applicable).

Which credits can be applied towards the B.A. degree?

The Office of the Registrar at the UMSV and SPU grant transfer credits to students who have completed courses at accredited institutions and have provided their official transcripts for evaluation. The Registrar evaluates and accepts only credits that apply to the student’s program of study and reflect a final grade of ‘C’ or above. Accepted credits are applied to the student’s record, reflected on their academic planner, but not calculated into their college GPA. A transfer credit planner will also be shared with the student’s advisor to assist with schedule creation and developing a graduation plan.
